Program Note
Ave Maria was composed in the spring of 2012 as a wedding gift to my sister Maria and her husband Kyle. The Ave Maria text is one of the most revered prayers in the Roman Catholic tradition in which I was raised. The text has also been set by countless composers spanning nearly the entire course of Western music history. In my own setting, I sought to convey a sense of humility, simplicity, and warmth.

Ave Maria, gratia plena, Dominus tecum.
Benedicta tu in mulieribus,
et benedictus fructus ventris tui, Iesus.
Sancta Maria, Mater Dei,
ora pro nobis peccatoribus, nunc et in hora mortis nostrae. Amen.
Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou among women,
and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God,
pray for us sinners, now and in the hour of our death. Amen.
